Empty HDF files
This distribution contains seven empty HDF image files, with the sizes of 6, 12, 25, 50, 100, 150 and 200 MB. All of them uses the FastFileSystem. Since the total size of all HDF files is 543 MB, each of them have been compressed to seperate lha archives. This in order to make it easier to only extract the wanted HDF instead of having to extract all of them (which uses more disk space than needed).
By looking at the compressed HDF files, you may think that it all sounds too good to be true, because how on earth is it possible to turn a 200 MB file into a measly 3.7 KB one? Well, the reason is simply because newly created HDF files for the most part only consists of zeros.
Nowadays I tend to use HDF image files for archiving purposes on my Amigas. This mainly consists of copying "not essential, but nice to have" type of files into them. This makes backups so much easier since it's quicker to copy a single 100 MB file, than thousands of smaller ones. I also use ADF & HDF images for transferring stuff between computers via FAT formatted media, where I want to preserve the Amiga specific file attributes. For mounting the image files, I mostly use my DiskImageGui and ImageMount scripts.
I decided to share these HDF files in case somebody would find them to be useful. Feel free to do whatever you like with the images.
PS! After mounting a HDF file, it might be a good idea to give it a new unique volume name to avoid any conflicts with other mounted HDF images.
